STAITHES

Close to the highest cliffs in England, Staithes village is tucked between between two headlands which shelter the tiny harbour.

James Cook, came here in 1744 as an apprentice and more recently its cottages were a magnet for artists, and the village became home to the famous Staithes group of impressionist painters in the early 1900s.

Staithes retains many old alleyways connecting the streets, including Dog Loup, the narrowest street in the North of England at only eighteen inches wide.

In Staithes itself you will find Art Galleries, a museum , a deli, several pubs inc. the famous Cod & Lobster Inn on the quayside

Close by you will find  the beautiful beaches at Runswick and Sandsend, and Whitby.
